Gift Guide for 2-Year Old's
I'm just going to say it: a lot of gift guides out there for kid's aren't very helpful.
They're either a reflection of the layout in the store down the street, everything is stupid expensive, or nothing really stands out to be the right gift for the little one in your life (or all the toys seem to have reached the sound barrier with the volume).
As Sequoia is turning two this year, I rounded up all the things we already have or plan to get. I say it often, but it takes a lot to get me to make the decision to purchase something and then actually keep it. The same energy goes into gift giving. I also like to give gifts that check both the practical and fun boxes.
So if you're looking for a few ideas for that tot in your life, all within different price ranges and many months of play to come, you've come to the right part of the internet today.

All things Learn & Play
1. Geo Stacking Blocks - $25
There's the standard square blocks, and then there's the geo blocks, which essentially takes one to next level builder status. Whether you're looking for vibrant or wooden tones, Himiku has you covered.
I didn't know how much toddlers actually loved playing with keys until Sequoia kept wanting the car keys to unlock the front door. This is such a fun way to get their fine motor skills fired up, and hopefully they won't ask for the car keys (at least as often).
The price is steep, and it took Sequoia some time to get to actually like hers, however, I'm recommending it because 1) it's something they can have for years and 2) for each doll purchased there are 10 meals provided to children in North America and world-wide.
The only noisy toy I'll recommend because it's fun and encourages active play. Also, classic.
5. Books - $8 - $12
- I am Human, by Susan Verde : a book of empathy, such a good read for little's (and adults too, honestly)
- Goodnight Veggies, by Diana Murray: the illustrations are bright and fun, and why not showcase some veggies at bed time?
- Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring, by Kenard Pak
6. Wall Art - $6 - $12
To Wear & Wellness
Never too soon to pour good thoughts into your little one's head. These are great to go over with them during the day, bed time routine, and as they get older, they know where to turn when in need of some reminders of stillness, capabilities and presence.
Let's just say you'll wish you had these for yourself (I mean, you totally could). Tubby Todd is a family favorite around here, and our favorite products are all things bath time.
I know purchasing clothing items can be...challenging. However, if there was one recommendation I'd make, it's the pullover by Little and Lively, a Canadian clothing company with incredible items for babies, toddlers, youth and adults. Their bamboo cotton blends make their products last longer, stretch (therefore, fit for months if not a year or so), and wash really well. I size up for Sequoia (got her the 1-2T last year, 3T this year) to get the most out of them.
We haven't run over these with a car or anything, but as far as child power goes, they really don't break. Jason's parents gave Sequoia a pair back in March of this year (2021) and she still wears them constantly.
Okay, I don't mean to be basic, but we've tried quite a few travel cups for Sequoia and they didn't stand much of a chance (lid's breaking, doesn't keep beverage cool for long, dents easily, hard to drink from, etc.). I predict this one will pass all the tests, and last a long time too.
The Big Stuff
This was gifted to us last year (after a pink and sparkly tent was offered, I sent this link and said "no thank you". I'm nice, I swear). Anyway - it's easy to assemble, easy to put away (we either lean it in the corner of a room or slide it under the couch when it's not being used), and I've spent some time in there myself because there doesn't have to be a reason.
If you've never heard of or received a Lovevery kit, let me tell you right now, it's a game changer. I don't buy a lot of toys for Sequoia - mostly because I get a headache from overthinking. Lovevery makes it so easy, by creating toys that encourage engagement, support the child's developmental growth and are so fun (and cute, I mean come on?). They offer a kit for every age from 0-months to 3 years, and other products like a block set, a play tunnel and more! They even offer gift cards, score.
This was our "main event" gift to Sequoia this year (at the time I'm writing this, she hasn't played with it yet!). I'm expecting it to be a hit because she's been climbing on literally everything, then continues to stand, shout for our attention and wait for our reaction. Which isn't always calm since seeing her stand atop the dining table isn't my favorite thing ever. That said, her climbing will have a safer, multi-use outlet. It's simple to assemble, just takes some time.
